Dear Cavalier Families:

After careful consideration, Jenkins Independent Schools are planning to return to in-person instruction on Wednesday, November 4th, 2020. This date will mark the beginning of the second grading period. As such, all work for the first grading period must be completed and submitted by Tuesday, November 3rd. We will be offering two options: an Online/Virtual model, similar to what we are currently offering, and a 4-Day Hybrid model. Students choosing the 4-Day Hybrid model will receive in-person instruction 4 days per week, Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday. Students will have no in-person classes on Wednesday following this model. Every Wednesday will follow the Online/Virtual Model for all students.

In planning for our students’ return, we will follow the Kentucky Department of Education’s Mode of Instruction Metrics for K-12 Education. Each Thursday, this information will be used to determine the mode of instruction for the following week, per KDE guidance. If Letcher County is in the RED level, all students will follow the Online/Virtual model until the county returns to a lower level of viral activity. Determination of our model of instruction for the following week will be made each Thursday using the data for Letcher County found on the COVID-19 Current Incidence Rate in Kentucky map.

Our staff has carefully reviewed all KDE and health department guidelines and have worked with our local health department to develop a plan for re-entry. We will share these procedures with you shortly. Rest assured that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Your understanding and support is greatly appreciated as we work together to provide for our students during these unprecedented times.

Sincerely,

Damian Johnson

Superintendent
